Who are the Wimmer Brothers?

Scott Allan Wimmer is an American professional stock car racing driver born on January 26th, 1976. His brother Chris Wimmer is also a racing driver born on June 23rd 1979. Scott has a total of 6 wins in Xfinity Series whereas his brother, Chris, competed in Busch Series. Chris Wimmer mostly races in short track competition. Chris completed ASA Midwest Tour and finished as high as second in his final season in 2013. Since then Chris has been running a limited schedule.

Scott Wimmer

Scott has been in sports almost all his life. At age 14 he participated in downhill and slalom skiing where he finished in position 13 out of 150 competitors in the US National Junior Olympics. Before becoming one of the greatest NASCAR drivers in the world he was racing at the State Park Speedway in Wausau back in 1991. He was 15 years old at the time. He quickly moved up the ranks and became one of the most famous drivers in the Midwest. Later, he moved down south in 1997 and became a Rookie of the Year in Hooters Cup. He finished 2nd in the American Speed Association series in 2000. Scott started the season without a sponsor and run full season after winning his first 2 races. It is also at this time that he made his debut in the Winston Cup.

His career in NASCAR started in 2000 when he started driving the No. 20 AT&T-Sponsored Pontic Grand Prix for the Bill Davis Racing in Busch Series. He went on to become one of the greatest NASCAR drivers and also the richest within 10 years. In 2011 NASCAR Xfinity series he run 226 races winning 6, being in top ten 74 times and 1 poles.

Chris Wimmer

Just like his brother, Chris’ rise to become one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR started in his youth. He worked on his Uncle Larry Detjens’ race car and his brother’s cars. His racing career kicked off at age 17 while still in high school. He raced pure stocks and won the track championship at State Park Speedway near Wausau in 1997. He also won later models and won State Park Speedway’s Larry Detjens memorial Race in 2001. He moved up to American Speed Association in 2001 where he completed over 50 events in 3 years.

Chris’ NASCAR career kicked off on January 9th, 2004 when he signed to drive for MB Motorsports in Craftsman Truck Series. He drove the No. 63 Dave Porter Truck Sales Ford. His debut was on the Mansfield Motorsports Speedway in April. He completed a total of 12 races with his best finish being on Kansas Speedway when he completed in position 18. His last race was in 2007 when he drove for the Milburn at Texas. He finished in position 30 after engine failure.

Current Career Status

After becoming one of the best NASCAR drivers of all time he partnered with Jim Budzinski, Kurt Wise and Russ Blakeley in 2012 to form the Wild Motosports. They ran ASA Midwest Tour race. In 2013 he become a spotter / coach for Coughlin and helped with two wins. His association with Coughlin as spotter / coach ended in 2017.

Although he did not become one of the greatest NASCAR drivers like his brother, Chris still made the books thus the reason we are talking about him here. In 2008 he competed on ASA Midwest Tour and finished in 4th place in season points. He had a total of 9 top 10 finishes and became the fastest qualifier in 2 of 14 events. With his father he operated the State Park Speedway and continued racing on ASA Series. In 2015 he took over as crew chief for Harrison Burton’s Super Late Model.
