North Carolina Speedway
Wimmer on Rockingham: Scott Wimmer, driver of the No. 23 Stacker 2/Stamina RX Chevrolet, and his Bill Davis Racing team head to The Rock feeling like they have a good solid start to the season.
Im so glad to get Daytona under our belt so now we can really go racing, said Wimmer. Our goal was to come out of Daytona with a solid finish, survive all the wrecks and bring the car home in one piece, which we accomplished. Im not saying that I dont like superspeedway racing, but going to tracks like Rockingham allows you take the focus off so much aerodynamics and you can really concentrate on the handling portion of your program. I feel our team really excels at being able to dial a car in to suit the specific track we are racing that week.
Im also really proud of the gains our pit crew has made over the off-season, said Wimmer. They practiced well over the winter and their pit stops in Daytona were absolutely awesome. Last year, we had good stops but having a year under their belt as a team I think has made them stronger. We only had one change on the team, a new tire changer, and he has Winston Cup experience. I feel our Stacker 2/Stamina RX pit crew is one advantage that will set us apart from our championship title contenders this season.
The key to Rockingham is tire conservation, said Wimmer. Tires wear off so quickly at this track, probably second quickest to Darlington. The Busch Series is different than Winston Cup, where we have a rule that limits how many sets of tires we can take under caution, so pit strategy and when you take your tires will determine the race winner. It comes down to having to run a long time on one set of tires. In order not to go a lap down during that run, you have to have a strong handling car. Motor and aerodynamics play to some degree in your package, but not as much as a great handling car.
Equipment: The Stacker 2/Stamina RX Racing team is taking brand new car to Rockingham.
