The 4 Report – Daytona

Primary Sponsor: Aero Exhaust

Driver: Scott Wimmer

Associate Sponsors:  Race Face, Wide Open Performance Energy Drink, Players Extreme Spirits, Coyote Ugly Saloon, Tuff Country, Kodak

Owner:  Morgan-McClure Motorsports

Manufacturer:  Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
Race:  Pepsi 400, Daytona International Speedway

Even though Scott Wimmer and the Morgan-McClure Motorsports # 4 Aero Exhaust Chevy posted the 37th fastest time in qualifying, they still fell short by .092 seconds to make the field for the Pepsi 400.

Wimmer and crew posted the 41st fastest time in the first practice session, where most of the 48 car field was practicing racing in the draft. The second practice session saw the team pick up to the 38th fastest time which put them third in the group that had to qualify on time.

Wimmer was the fourth car to qualify Saturday afternoon. “Conditions at Daytona can change so rapidly and can affect the car’s speed that it’s hard to say if an early draw hurts or helps you,” said Wimmer following the run. “Many times the wind picks up later in the afternoon so an early draw would be good, but today it seemed like the track actually started cooling down and there was little wind. I hate we missed this race – my guys work so hard and I believe our car would have been very good in the Pepsi 400,” Wimmer continued as he and his team waited for all the other cars required to qualify on time to pass inspection before loading up to return home.

Being an impound race with no chance to adjust the setup of the car after qualifying, the focus was on getting the best possible race setup in the car and still be able to qualify well. “We gambled too much today by putting more of a race setup in the car, thinking we would be fast enough to qualify on time and we fell a little bit short. It’s hard to believe you can run the 37th fastest lap in qualifying and still not make the race,” said Morgan-McClure President Larry McClure. McClure and his team remain 39th in owner points following the Pepsi 400.

The Morgan-McClure Motorsports # 4 Aero Exhaust team welcomes associate sponsor Race Face to the NASCAR Nextel Cup series. Race Face, the only officially licensed NASCAR sunscreen product will be available for purchase at the # 4 merchandise hauler in Chicago. Morgan-McClure will also have Scott Wimmer Aero Exhaust team apparel available on the Coyote Ugly/Chrome Mafia merchandise trailer at Chicagoland Speedway. Lil Lovell, founder of Coyote Ugly Saloon (www.coyoteuglysaloon.com) will be a special guest of the team all weekend in Chicago.
