RACE RECAP:The Wimmer Race team made their first trip to Houston Motor Speedway this past weekend. They were impressed with the beautiful facility. The track surface was a little  tricky to figure out with part being blacktop and part being concrete. After the first practice session on Friday Chris ended up being 20th overall with a time of 15.002 a speed of 89.988 m.p.h. After a good nights sleep the crew returned to the track for Saturdays practice and qualifying. After the 2nd qualifying session Chris was 5th overall with a time of 14.608 a speed of 92.415 m.p.h. The team then started to prepare the car for qualifying. Chris was the 37th car to qualify out of the 40-car field. He turned in an impressive time of 14.577 a speed of 92.612 m.p.h.to put him solidly in the race in the 7th starting position. At the drop of the green flag Chris soon moved up to the 5th position where he stayed until a caution send most of the leaders to the pits for tires or gas. The crew chief choose to keep Chris on the track and wait for another caution to do their gas. Chris inherited the lead and held on to the lead for 13 laps when the 06 car 3rd grooved him and sent him up the track to where there was no grip. Chris had to wait for an opening to get back down into the race groove. Unfortunately he had lost a lot of positions by then. Seeing that they were at the back of the pack they decided to pit for tires at the next caution. Upon returning to the track it was noticed that Chris had a left front tire going flat. They had to return to the pits to replace that tire. Unfortunately the officials did not know that Chris had a hole in the tire and docked Chris a lap for changing more than 2 tires under a caution. Unfortunately Chris was given the moreover flag when the leaders came up behind him and he had to pull down to leave them by even though he knew he wasn’t a lap down. After review at the end of the race the officials said they would give him his lap back because of the hole in the tire.
