Scott Wimmer Event Preview NASCAR Busch Series – No. 23 Siemens Pontiac

News

Scott Wimmer on Michigan International Speedway: Scott Wimmer, driver of the No. 23 Siemens Pontiac, makes only his second start at Michigan International Speedway.

“Last year was the first time I have ever seen Michigan International Speedway,” said Wimmer.  “We ran well during the race, but we ended up pitting near the end, due to what I thought was a flat tire, so we ended up going a lap down and sacrificing a good finish.  Overall, I learned a lot which is the best you can expect when you’ve never run laps there before.“

“Michigan is an interesting race track,” said Wimmer.  “It has a lot of superspeedway characteristics, but you still have to have a handling race car at the same time.  It is a great track for a driver because it has a lot of different grooves.  You can run high, middle or low on the track.  If you car is a little off, it is a very forgiving track.

Equipment: The Siemens Racing team is taking the same car to Michigan that competed earlier this year at Pikes Peak, where it finished sixth and at Nashville in June, where it finished seventh.

“It has been a real good car for us,” said Wimmer.  “The team is making some changes to the body to improve the aerodynamics of the car, as the car was built for 1.5-mile tracks and since Michigan is a superspeedway, we needed to take a little bit of drag out of the car.  I’m really comfortable with this car, so it will be good.”

Favorite T-shirt: Wimmer started wearing a Dick Trickle T-shirt underneath his firesuit that a friend gave to him at Dover International Speedway in June.  Wimmer finished fourth that day and started wearing it at every race thereafter, except for St. Louis (where he finished 21st), and in every race except one, he finished 13th or better, with six top-10 finishes.

“This shirt has only failed me once now since I started wearing it,” said Wimmer.  “I hope I haven’t worn the luck out of it because it seems to be working.  It is in pretty bad condition right now, so I am worried about how long it will hold up.  I’m a pretty superstitious guy; I don’t walk under ladders and I don’t look for trouble.  If I find something that brings me luck, I try to stick with that one thing, and right now it is the Dick Trickle T-shirt.  Maybe it is a Wisconsin thing, but I won’t question it.”

Team Notes:

bullet Wimmer spent his off-weekend in New York at his cousin’s wedding.
bullet Wimmer tested his NASCAR Winston Cup No. 27 Siemens Dodge at Bristol Motor Speedway on Monday, August 12th and Tuesday, August 13th.
