This weekend Chris Wimmer and his Keith Coleman Racing teammates travel to Mexico City with the NASCAR Busch Series. This will be the second trip south of the border for the KCR team, but will be Wimmers first venture to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, Mex. To prepare for his trip to his first road course race with the NASCAR Busch Series, Wimmer spent the Monday following the Daytona weekend at the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Phoenix, Ariz., honing his road course racing skills.
It was a lot of fun. I had a blast, said Wimmer. I learned a lot. We worked a lot on the shifting. It definitely will help going down there [to Mexico City] and knowing what to expect.
Wimmer will have his work cut out for him, as this is a very competitive field that includes 9 NEXTEL Cup regulars and 4 road course ringers. The Keith Coleman Racing team will unload the same Chevrolet that they took to Mexico City and Watkins Glen in 2005. Wimmer remains optimistic stating, other than the road course ringers and Cup drivers, when we go to Mexico, the playing field is a little more level.
Busch practice begins Friday afternoon from 2:15 p.m.-3:20 p.m., with Rookie Practice from 3:50 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. The final practice session takes place from 4:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Qualifying for the Telcel-Motorola 200 will air live on SPEED Saturday, March 4 beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Telcel-Motorola 200 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez will be televised live Sunday, March 5 beginning at 2 p.m. on FOX. The Motor Racing Network (MRN) will also carry the race broadcast live. All times are eastern.
