Rookie Chris Wimmer returns to the NASCAR Busch Series this weekend behind the wheel of the #0 Davis Motorsports Chevrolet for Saturdays Sams Town 250 at the Memphis Motorsports Park. Wimmer will substitute for driver Kertus Davis while Davis practices and qualifies another entry for a NASCAR Nextel Cup driver traveling from Atlanta to compete in this event.
I really appreciate that Johnny and Kertus (Davis) are letting me help them out this week, said Wimmer. I hope I can bring home a good finish for Davis Motorsports. Theyre an amazing team that does so much with so little. They are very dedicated to racing and are the hardest working people Ive ever seen.
This Wausau-native got his start racing Pure Stocks and Super Late Models on local Wisconsin tracks, winning races, and several Rookie-of-the-Year and track champion accolades. Wimmer moved to the ASA Series in 2001, remaining in the series through 2003. During the 2003 season, Wimmer ran his own race shop out of High Point, N.C. with one volunteer as his staff. He participated in 18 races, collecting one Top-5 and 11 Top-10 finishes. He has competed part-time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR Busch Series. Despite his hard work and dedication to racing, Wimmer continues to search for a full-time ride for the 2007 Season. Wimmer has relocated for every team he has driven for because he feels he belongs in the shop each week, working side-by-side with his crew.
To prepare for the weekends race, the Wimmer and the Davis Motorsports team will test Monday in Lakeland, Fla.
Regarding the test, Wimmer stated, Its been a while since I have been behind the wheel of a car, so I am looking forward to some extra seat-time before heading to the racetrack. Hopefully well be able to learn some things and go to Memphis well-prepared.
Wimmer has two previous starts in the Craftsman Truck Series at the Memphis Motorsports Park. In 2005 Wimmer raced to a Top-20 finish, coming home on the lead lap and in the 17th position. Wimmer will have to qualify the #0 Chevrolet Monte Carlo on time for this event.
